Mallon Shortlisted for Net Zero Project of the Year at Mid Ulster District Council Business & Environment Awards

We’re delighted to announce that Mallon has been shortlisted for Net Zero Project of the Year at the Mid Ulster District Council Business & Environment Awards.

The award recognises organisations that are leading the way toward a greener, more sustainable future through measurable environmental improvements, the integration of renewable energy, and a long–term commitment to climate action. Being shortlisted is an important milestone for our team and a proud moment in our ongoing Net Zero journey.

A Data–Led Pathway to Net Zero

Our Net Zero project is built on a simple principle: meaningful climate action must be measurable, transparent, and continuous.

Using 2021 as our baseline year, we track and publish our carbon footprint annually to ensure accountability and drive improvement. In 2024, our total operational carbon footprint was 172,552.61 kgCO₂e, which remained below our baseline despite the organisation’s continued growth and expansion of services.

This is a significant achievement for a growing technology company and demonstrates that emissions reductions can be delivered alongside business growth.

One of the most notable outcomes of our work has been a 98.7% reduction in Scope 2 (electricity) emissions compared to our baseline. Today, Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions account for around 1% of our total footprint, reflecting the effectiveness of our focus on energy efficiency, renewable electricity, and low–carbon operations.

Turning Commitment into Action

Our Net Zero progress has been driven by a combination of technical improvements, behavioural change, and leadership commitment, including:

These actions sit alongside our public commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2040, ten years ahead of the UK’s national 2050 target.

Sustainability Embedded in Our Culture

Sustainability at Mallon is embedded in how we operate as a business.

Senior leadership actively oversees environmental performance, and we are progressing toward ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems certification to further strengthen governance and continuous improvement. Employees across the organisation are encouraged to contribute, adopt sustainable behaviours, and understand how their everyday actions affect our carbon footprint.

This culture of shared responsibility has been central to delivering long–term, lasting change.

Extending Impact Beyond Our Walls

While reducing our own footprint is essential, we also recognise the wider role we can play in supporting climate action.

Through the digital and geospatial solutions we deliver to customers — particularly in the public sector — we help organisations make better, data–informed decisions around environmental management, infrastructure planning, and sustainability. By sharing our Net Zero journey openly, we aim to encourage and inspire other businesses to take meaningful steps of their own.

A Proud Moment for Our Team

Being shortlisted for Net Zero Project of the Year is recognition of the dedication and effort shown by colleagues across the business. It reflects years of incremental improvements, smart investment, and a genuine belief that businesses have a responsibility to be part of the climate solution.

We would like to thank Mid Ulster District Council for the opportunity to showcase our work and for shining a spotlight on organisations driving positive environmental change across the district.

We look forward to celebrating with fellow finalists and continuing our journey toward a lower–carbon future.
