Trimble eCognition User Forum

Mon 14th Apr 2014

Last week Justin Kidd attended the first Trimble eCognition User Forum in the Titanic Museum, Belfast.

eCognition is an advanced image analysis software that imports and fuses a variety of geospatial data for analysis, such as raster images, LiDAR point clouds and GIS vectors. The aim of the event was to bring together both existing and perspective users of eCognition software to share ideas and was attended by around 40 delegates.

The event featured a presentation by Dr Waldemar Krebs of Trimble Geospatial who introduced the latest version of eCognition (v9.0), showcasing its capabilities by examining sample projects from across the globe using LiDAR, aerial and satellite data. Also featured was an interesting land classification case study presented by a current eCognition user.

The presentations prompted some interesting discussion on the future of remote sensing, and the possibilities afforded by the increasing availability of satellite imagery and height datasets, such as LiDAR and Tri-Stereo digital surface models
