LIDAR workshops

Wed 25th Sep 2013

We recently completed some very interesting workshops on LIDAR with Brian Clifford.

Brian is currently completing his PhD in University College Dublin where he has been evaluating LIDAR in studies of Irish forestry. LIDAR (light detection and ranging) is a remote-sensing technology (usually from an aeroplane) commonly used to survey forests. We used FUSION software in the workshops that was developed by the United States Forest Service. Participants worked with raw data to produce a DEM (digital elevation model) and a bare earth model and canopy model. LIDAR is widely applied in archaelogy also.
