The Bar of Ireland Project Award

We are proud to announce that we have been awarded a project to scan and digitally capture a collection from the Bar of Ireland's archives held in the Law Library.

The Bar of Ireland is the representative body for the barristers' profession in Ireland and sets the professional standards by which all barristers are subject to. Founded in 1541, the Bar of Ireland has overseen huge changes to not only the Irish legal system but also to the political landscape of the country. Today, the Bar continues to play a major role in the life of the Irish State, wtih 6 of the 10 Taoisgh having trained to be barristers.

Through membership of the Law Library, barristers have access to a collection of over 130,000 items, made up primarily of legal textbooks, journals, legislation and case law. The library is important to all barristers as it facilitates the sharing of knowledge, experience and administrative resources among fellow barristers.

Mallon Technology will be assisting the Law Library in digitising a collection of 18 volumes of minute books, typed newsletters and codes of conduct and constitutions of the bar. The unique collection comprises of over 5,500 individual pages which will be preserved and protected for further use by the Law Library thanks to our Archival Scanning Service.

If you have a unique or historical collection that you would like to see preserved or protected for future use, please get in touch to learn more about how our Document Capture services could assist your society or organisation.
