GeoBusiness 2014

Last week Mallon Technology attended GEO Business 2014, held at the Business Design Centre in London.

GEO Business is a major new geospatial event for everyone involved in the gathering, storing, processing and delivering of geospatial information. The event has been organised in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering, Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, The Survey Association and the Association for Geographic Information.

The first ever GEO Business event featured an international trade exhibition, a host of industry conference presentations and a programme of live workshops and demonstrations featuring the technology and services used by those working with spatial data.

Below Sean Cleary gives us his account of the event:

“Whilst the event concentrated primarily on the surveying sector, there was also an element of incorporating software evidenced by a number of OpenSource Software development companies exhibiting.

US based Boundless, a company behind the development of OpenSource software such as GeoServer, OpenLayers and GeoTools was exhibiting, as was an Italian company named GeoSolutions who also hosted a number of workshops around their GIS software solutions and GeoServer usage.

We also attended a very interesting talk on a subject called BIM (Business Information Modelling), a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places.

Overall the event was an invaluable exercise which gave the company a chance to meet representatives of different geospatial organisations personally as well as giving us a chance to view and gain experience in potential new business opportunities.”
