Mallon Technology Awarded An Bord Pleanala Project

Mallon Technology are proud to announce that it has been contracted to digitally scan and geo–reference An Bord Pleanala’s (ABP) full planning register archive.

ABP is an independent, statuory body that is responsible for deciding appeals from planning decisions made by local authorities in Ireland as well as ruling on all major strategic infrastructure projects. As such ABP has collected a vast amount of paper maps which it consults before ruling on appeal decisions.

Mallon Technology will be assisting ABP in moving from a paper–based map system, of which they currently have a collection of over 3,00registers covering the whole of the Republic of Ireland, to a full GIS system. We have provided capture hardware and a capture team on–site to scan the maps. Our team of GIS professionals are then processing the geo–refrencing of the maps which will allow ABP staff to easily record future data on their GIS while viewing the historical data as a raster layer.

Their collection consists of 6–inch Cassini, 25–inch Cassini, 1:2500 and1:1000 vector maps and we will be utilising ArcMap imaging and capture software during the conversion process.

The project is being undertaken over multiple sites involving the collaboration of various departments within Mallon Technology. This is being managed from Mallon Technology’s Head Office and involves one project manager, two capture technicians, three GIS technicians and one GIS data specialist.
