2 Days, 2 Conferences: Mallon Technology at GIS Ireland & AGI–NI Conference 2017

Last week, Mallon Technology attended IRLOGI’s annual GIS Ireland conference in Dublin and the AGI–NI’s annual conference in Belfast during an exciting couple of days!

This year both conferences took place around International GIS Day which was a fitting way to celebrate the contribution of GIS across the island of Ireland as well as discussing future uses and applications of the technology to improve the lives of citizens across the region.

GIS Ireland

The focus of this year’s conference was on climate change, a topic that took on a greater meaning when the original date for the conference had to be postponed following Storm Ophelia, which was believed to have been a consequence of climate change.

Undeterred by the change of date, IRLOGI hosted an extremely well received and attended conference. The conference provided our colleagues with a opportunity to network with and learn from their peers within the GI sector in Ireland. The conference this year was also special for Mallon Technology as a number of our colleagues were selected to present on different topics relating to work they have undertaken. The presentations included:

  • Ian Hand who delivered a presentation on the Automation of Predictive Flood Data and Map Production
  • Calvin McCoy who delivered a presentation on the Mapping of Wildfires
  • David McQuillan who delivered a presentation on Improving Citizen Engagement and Communications via an Online Planning Portal

AGI–NI

This year’s AGI–NI conference was focused on the topic you are where you live. This was then split into four different categories which aimed to explore the importance of GI and location intelligence across a wide range of different industry sectors.

The conference was attended by a large number of delegates from across the GI sector in Northern Ireland and Great Britain. Delegates got to hear discussions and presentations on a host of interesting topics covering areas such as, Smart Cities, Flooding and Planning. Just like IRLOGI, Mallon Technology colleagues delivered presentations to the delegates in attendance. This included presentations from:

  • Ian Hand on Automation of Predictive Flood Data and Map Production in the ROI
  • David McQuillan on Improving Citizen Engagement and Communications via an Online Planning Portal

Exhibition

As well as delivering 5 presentations across the two conferences, Mallon Technology also had a large exhibition presence at both IRLOGI and AGI–NI. The exhibition were an excellent opportunity to showcase our latest product and service developments directly to a relevant and interested audience. On the stands this year, particular focus was given to our GIS Services and Remote Sensing expertise as well as highlighting the recent updates to Azimap.

Both the presentations and exhibition stand served to highlight the strength in depth of Mallon Technology as a complete GIS services provider, able to undertake work for clients across a broad range of industries.

Thank you to anyone who visited our stand or who saw any of our presentations at either IRLOGI or AGI–NI, if you have any questions about any of our services or on the information from any of presentations, please do get in touch with us at info@mallontechnology.com
