Mallon Attend Open Geospatial – Belfast

Yesterday, Andrew Bennett, Brendan Sheehy, Eric Hardiman and Paul Farrell attended the latest in AGI’s series of events this year.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary the AGI is holding a series of events throughout the UK to tackle the big 5 issues of the moment in the Geospatial industry. The latest event, held in Belfast, focused on the issue of Open Geospatial and in particular the rise of the open (source, data and standards) movement.

Keynote speakers at the event included both industry experts and government and business representatives who tackled issues around open source, data and standards and how they can be fully utilised within both government and business. Our very own Brendan Sheehy also delivered a talk at the event titled GIS: Open for Business. His presentation examined the open movement in relation to small businesses, explaining why there has been little up take by small business of Geo–Information services, what could be done to improve this and what benefits GI can deliver to small businesses.

Brendan’s presentation was very well received by the delegates in attendance as was the Mallon Technology stand which was showcasing our expertise and work with Geo–Information to a wide range of public sector and private companies interested in utilising GI within their organisations.
