			   <title>AGI GeoCommunity 2012</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/68/agi-geocommunity-2012</link>
			   <description>
	Last September, one of our software developers, Brendan, attended AGI GeoCommunity 2012 conference in Nottingham.&amp;nbsp; AGI GeoCommunity is the largest independent conference in the UK digital mapping and data calendar. The conference provides tangible insight and leadership in current GI issues via a range of keynote addresses and conference papers, a showcase exhibition, as well as by hands-on training and face-to-face delegate networking.&amp;nbsp; Brendan said there was a strong public sector slant to it, but there were also some items of interest to the private sector including several companies using open source products, e.g. &amp;nbsp;OpenLayers, GeoServer etc. (similar to our newest product GeoAppBuilder).

			   <title>National Ploughing Championships 2012</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/66/national-ploughing-championships-2012</link>
			   <description>
	In September two Mallon Technology staff, Justin Kidd and William McCann, attended this year&amp;rsquo;s National Ploughing Championships in New Ross.&amp;nbsp; You can read about William&amp;rsquo;s experience of the day below.

	On Wednesday the 26th of September Justin Kidd and I were lucky enough to attend one of Ireland&amp;rsquo;s largest festivals (without a Heineken stand or plastic cup in sight), the National Ploughing Championships. It is one of Europe&amp;rsquo;s largest agricultural trade shows with over 1,300 trade stands showcasing not just agricultural products, technology and services, but everything from cookery demonstrations to the latest fashions!

	Having survived some heavy traffic, we eventually arrived at the site for this year&amp;rsquo;s event in Heathpark, New Ross. We were two of the 187,000 people who attended this year. We were greeted by an event in which competitors were attempting to break the world record in pole climbing (unfortunately the competitor we watched was unsuccessful). There were similar events held by various companies throughout the day showcasing their new machinery and products while entertaining the spectators.

	My area of interest being forestry, Ivisited some of the many forestry companies on show and I also visited the Forest Service with whom we have a long-term working relationship. Their stand was located in the Department of Agriculture tent, which was one of the busiest tents Iattended that day. Meanwhile, Justin took the opportunity to check out the latest in GPS guidance and field surveying technology on display.

	The National Ploughing Championships is an event that continues to go from strength to strength each year, and even the terrible weather didn&amp;rsquo;t stop spectators attending in their droves. I was delighted to attend this year and I am already looking forward to next year&amp;rsquo;s event. . .&amp;nbsp; but hopefully with some sunnier weather!

	William McCann

			   <title>Mallon wins Meath Field Names Project</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/62/mallon-wins-meath-field-names-project</link>
			   <description>
	Last week we won a tender published by voluntary group, Meath Field Names Group, to undertake the GIS Mapping/ Digitisation of Meath fields using Mapinfo software.

	The Meath Field Names Group is a voluntary group which was established in May 2008.&amp;nbsp; This project is to record and publish the field names of County Meath along with their history, folklore and relevant information.&amp;nbsp; It is guided by an elected Steering Group along with a network of local volunteers, and is strongly supported by Meath IFA, Meath Archaeological and Historical Society and Meath County Council Library Services.

	The Meath Field Names Project is the first of its kind for an entire county in Ireland and as such, is breaking new ground.&amp;nbsp; To date there have been some 500+ volunteers helping with this project in some shape or form.&amp;nbsp; The Steering Group has always focussed on the best quality and the most useful end product possible.&amp;nbsp; The Meath model developed for this project will be studied and used by other counties hoping to take a similar project.

	The information gathering stage of the project has thus far been hugely successful, with the database now holding records of approximately 21,000 fields from around 800 townlands all around the county. &amp;nbsp;The next stages of the project are:

	1.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Digitising the fields/ mapping work to link the database to fields on the map

	2.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Preparation and publication&amp;nbsp; of project report book

	3.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Development of project website

	Mallon Technology have been enlisted to undertake the digitisation and mapping stage, where it is hoped that the project will take on a whole new additional visual dimension.&amp;nbsp; At a glance it will be possible to see features, field names and trends and how they are geographically spread across the county.&amp;nbsp; The mapping work will be invaluable for further detailed study of different historical aspects of the information gathered.

			   <title>Breakfast with IRLOGI!</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/60/breakfast-with-irlogi-</link>
			   <description>
	Three members of our GIS team recently attended an IRLOGI breakfast briefing......here is Eoin&amp;#39;s account of the morning:

	On Thursday 17th of May, myself, Aisling East and William McCann attended an Irlogi breakfast briefing about OpenStreetMap (OSM). It was held in Chartered Accountant&amp;rsquo;s House, in Dublin. The event was hosted by Richard Cantwell, a committee member of IRLOGI and member of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, and Dermot McNally, a board member of the OpenStreetMap Foundation.

	OSM, for those of you who haven&amp;rsquo;t heard of it, is an Open Source worldwide map, which can be both used, and edited by the public at large. On the day we were first given an Overview of the project, its history and development, and how it is used. They then went on to discuss how the data can be used within other GIS environments, how many other organisations are now using the data, and what they are using it for.

	It was created in 2004 as a student project which has now grown to such an extent that it now has 550,000 registered editors. The Map data is generally created by volunteers using handheld GPS devices, and from other open source datasets. Users now have permission to use Yahoo and Bing maps for example. Some commercial companies have also donated data.

	OSM has been used for humanitarian reasons, most notably in the aftermath of the Haitian earthquake in 2010, when volunteers mapped the roads, buildings and refugee camps around Port-Au-Prince in just two days.

	A sign of the growth of the project is that numerous websites are now embedding their maps instead of Google Maps, including Daft.ie. OSM is also used in the creation of many Apps. Even Apple have recently used OSM to create maps for its iPhoto App.

	It was great to see how good an Open Source project can be, and that it could compete and even flourish against big corporate giants like Google Earth. Overall it was a very interesting briefing, and an eye opener to the capability of Open Source data.

			   <title>Chief Fire Officers Conference 2012</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/59/chief-fire-officers-conference-2012</link>
			   <description>
	Chief Fire Officers Conference 2012

	At the beginning of May (9th and 10th) Anthony and Declan took to the road again, this time heading for the Ballymascanlon House Hotel in Dundalk where this year&amp;rsquo;s Chief Fire Officer&amp;rsquo;s conference was taking place.

	The theme was &amp;lsquo;New Horizons for the Fire and Rescue Service of the Future&amp;rsquo;.&amp;nbsp; This was the perfect theme for showcasing our state of the art range of fire service products including Diamond Fire Engine; Diamond Fire, and Diamond EAC, as well as our hardware products.

	An impressive array of local, national and international speakers was&amp;nbsp;lined up to talk at the event (including Olli-Pekka Ojanen, CEO of Regional Emergency&amp;nbsp;Services, Tampere,&amp;nbsp;Finland and Dr. Guillermo Rein, University of Edinburgh), with the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan TD opening the conference.

	Anthony Quinn said, &amp;lsquo;As usual this year&amp;rsquo;s Chief Fire Officer&amp;rsquo;s Conference was great!&amp;nbsp; Getting to the conference every year enables us to catch up with the customers face to face and tell them about the updates and improvements to our products.&amp;nbsp; We also get to play around with the hardware we resell (such as the Panasonic Toughbook) and show them off to potential customers.&amp;nbsp; All in all it was a really worthwhile couple of days, and getting to spend them with Declan was just the cherry on the cake!&amp;rsquo;

			   <title>Annual GeoDirectory User Conference</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/56/annual-geodirectory-user-conference</link>
			   <description>
	Last week Justin Kidd and Niamh O&amp;#39;Keeffe were lucky enough to get to the Annual GeoDirectory User&amp;#39;s Conference.&amp;nbsp; This is Niamh&amp;#39;s account of the day:

	&amp;nbsp;

	I attended the Annual GeoDirectory user&amp;rsquo;s conference in The Gresham Hotel in Dublin on Thursday March 29th along with Justin Kidd.

	I had been expecting a very technical set of talks regarding the GeoDirectory products but while I gained some insight into forthcoming releases there was a variety of speakers on a range of topics.

	The event was introduced and mc&amp;rsquo;d by Dara Keogh, CEO of GeoDirectory. GeoDirectory is a joint venture between An Post and the Ordnance Survey of Ireland (OSi) GeoDirectory is the definitive address database of buildings in the Republic of Ireland. GeoDirectory was established by&amp;nbsp;An&amp;nbsp;Post&amp;nbsp;and&amp;nbsp;Ordnance&amp;nbsp;Survey&amp;nbsp;Ireland&amp;nbsp;to identify the precise address and location of every residential and commercial property in the State.&amp;nbsp; GeoDirectory assigns each property its own individual fingerprint &amp;ndash; a unique, verified address in a standardised format, together with a precise geocode.

	Tony Murphy of OSi discussed what is forthcoming in the OSi Prime 2 which will be an innovative way for users of OSi data to access updated data. As Mallon Technology GIS Technicians are a large user group of OSi orthoimagery this is an area of huge interest to us. Prime 2 will be scale independent, object based, with a seamless coverage of orthophotography which will no longer be stored in &amp;lsquo;tiles&amp;rsquo;.

	Howard Johnson gave a very interesting talk on using geo data (latitude, longitude) to inform the Aer Corps helicopters to air lift a casualty to a specialist hospital.

	Fran&amp;ccedil;ois Salg&amp;eacute; who came from France discussed the Inspire Directive and EURLOGI (the European equivalent of IRLOGI). He suggested some interesting websites to check out such as www.vinogeo.fr which shows vineyards geographic locations! He also discussed interesting initiatives such as crowdsourcing (see www.geml.fr) which in France has utilised the public&amp;rsquo;s spotting of wildlife to map their location.

	There followed a very interesting presentation by Mark Warren from the Department of Public Reform where they are exploring methods of exchanging data across different government departments such as welfare and revenue using the PPSN and GeoDirectory data as the validation of &amp;lsquo;single customer view&amp;rsquo;. As there is no definitive repository of such data at a national level, different government department&amp;rsquo;s have been unable to match records and customers have to go to a variety of organisations if, say, they move and change their address. As there are often spelling variations in addresses, incorporating GeoDirectory gives confidence to such an endeavour as there is one unique code/address on this database.

	An update of GeoDirectory was given by Dominic Fahey of An Post. As expected with the change in the Irish economy there are a lot less buildings and therefore addresses being added to the database. Some changes include a new category of temporary dwelling (e.g. a mobile home) or temporary shops. There is a new query tool on the website so customers can filter out what data they need to look at and future updates are to be released through the extranet site as opposed to discs.

	Attendees at the conference received a &amp;lsquo;sneak preview&amp;rsquo; of the results of the Census 2011 and how GeoDirectory was utilised from Cormac Halpin of the central statistics office.&amp;nbsp; His presentation discussed changes in Ireland since the 2006 census such as the reduction in the number of people from other countries moving to Ireland and the change in what is categorised as &amp;lsquo;commuter belt&amp;rsquo; and the demise of the bedsit as an accommodation type; obviously student accommodation is now a lot more salubrious than in my day! <title>AGINI Soapbox event</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/55/agini-soapbox-event</link>
			   <description>
	Last Thursday (22nd March) we attended AGINI&amp;rsquo;s latest event &amp;lsquo;Soapbox&amp;rsquo; in South Eastern Regional College (SERC), Lisburn.&amp;nbsp; Our expectations were high after the success of their last event, GeoBeers back in February- and it didn&amp;rsquo;t disappoint!

	The composition of the event was informal five-minute open presentations by people involved or interested in GIS to share their knowledge.&amp;nbsp; Some topics of interest were Jennifer McKinley of QUB talking about GIS research and teaching within the School of Geography; Anne Campbell of SERC on the operational and strategic use of GIS at SERC; and Michael Aiken talking about how GI is playing a large role in how DARD manage payments.

	Two of our own staff members also gave short presentations:&amp;nbsp; Brendan Sheehy talked about the use of E-Inspect to simplify spatial inspections; and Anthony Quinn on using GIS to help create cost neutral systems.&amp;nbsp; As well as the presentations, AGINI also organised drinks and nibbles afterwards, allowing the organisations present to network.&amp;nbsp; It was great to hear about and discuss what&amp;rsquo;s going on in the industry and to be able to share our knowledge.

			   <title>Mallon Technology Attends Survey Ireland Conference</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/54/mallon-technology-attends-survey-ireland-conference</link>
			   <description>
	The Survey Ireland conference returned to DIT this year after a brief hiatus and was attended by Mallon Technology staff from the Dublin and Portlaoise offices.

	Speakers at the conference came from a number of academic and industrial backgrounds including: DIT, OSI, Tullow Oil, DPS Engineering, and Coastway. The conference was kicked off with an engaging talk about the importance of Geomatics in the modern world, while the proceeding speakers focussed on a broad range of topics including GPS infrastructure, laser scanning, project management, and risk analysis. Of particular interest was the talk by Conor Cahalan of NUI Maynooth who demonstrated the capabilities&amp;rsquo; of mobile laser scanning which could be used in carrying out inspections, potentially allowing for more accurate mapping of field boundaries on the part of Mallon Technology.

	Alongside the talks, DIT had also organised an exhibition, allowing the organisations present to market and demonstrate a wide variety of the very latest in surveying equipment technology, including: theodolites; GPS equipment; and of particular interest, UAV&amp;rsquo;s for capturing aerial imagery, as modelled here by Mallon Technology&amp;rsquo;s very own Brian McNally. All in all it was a very informative and worthwhile day and hopefully the conference will continue to be scheduled on annual basis.

			   <title>GIS Ireland 2011</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/41/gis-ireland-2011</link>
			   <description>
	Look out for us at this year&amp;rsquo;s IRLOGI GIS Ireland 2011 conference which takes place in Chartered Accountants House, Dublin on 12th October.&amp;nbsp; Not only are we taking a stand at this annual conference, but our very own Brendan Sheehy has been accepted as a speaker.&amp;nbsp; His presentation is entitled Sustainable and Efficient GIS? Open Source it.

	The influence and use of spatial data in all walks of life, coupled with the growing desire for public governance and access to this data is a rapidly growing trend that places additional demands on an already stretched public sector.&amp;nbsp; The public wants access to our public and private spatial data and increasingly look to be the driving force in not only improving it but also using it in new and innovative ways.

	Within the context of a weak economy and slashed IT budgets, open source technologies would appear to offer a panacea for many of our GIS needs.&amp;nbsp; However, as many have discovered, the theory of an Open Source GIS nirvana is a far cry from the minefield of Open Source GIS implementation realities.

	Brendan&amp;rsquo;s presentation aims to convince the audience that open source technologies can provide sustainable and efficient GIS IT solutions. &amp;nbsp;He&amp;rsquo;ll be detailing our hands on experiences with implementing an open source GIS solution. Outlining the advantages of using open source as well as offering advice on avoiding some of the common pitfalls inherent in the process. The audience will be left with a practical understanding of what it really takes to implement a useable Open Source GIS.

	We look forward to seeing you there.

			   <title>Diamond Shift Manager</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/37/diamond-shift-manager</link>
			   <description>
	Diamond Shift Manager&amp;nbsp;is the latest addition to the Diamond Software Suite.&amp;nbsp; Developed alongside and utilised within Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service, Shift Manager&amp;nbsp;is a fire officer shift pattern management system, which allows users to assign fire officer shifts and generally keep a track of which fire officer&amp;rsquo;s are on or off duty within a particular shift pattern.

	Diamond Shift Manager&amp;nbsp;also allows users to manage the roles and specific skills of each fire officer to ensure that the best and most appropriate fire officers are assigned to a shift for any particular fire officer watch. It also has the capacity to manage which fire officer&amp;rsquo;s have been assigned to use breathing apparatus and the duration of use on any watch.

	Another key function of the system is a reminder&amp;rsquo;s section notifying users of the time span and lifecycle of a fire officer&amp;rsquo;s skills. This involves displaying the duration of a fire officer skill and notifying when that skill may become outdated or notifying users which fire officer&amp;rsquo;s skills have been unused over a certain period of time thus highlighting the potential requirement for training and refresher courses.

	Other functionality includes assigning overtime and leave and the system is proving to be a beneficial addition to the existing Diamond Fire suite.&amp;nbsp; Feel free to contact us for a demonstration!

			   <title>AGI Event</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/36/agi-event</link>
			   <description>
	It was great to see how some public authorities in NI are using GIS for their Land and Asset management when we attended the recent AGINI &amp;lsquo;Utilising GIS for More Efficient Land and Asset Management&amp;rsquo; event in the University of Ulster campus in Belfast last Wednesday. &amp;nbsp;It was especially interesting to view the demo of the NI Housing Executive&amp;rsquo;s Land Terrier system in action as we are coming to the end of our updates capture project for this system. &amp;nbsp;As someone who has been involved in the capture of this data I found it really rewarding and interesting to see how it will be used by the NIHE on a daily basis.

	As well as the NIHE presentation, representatives from the University of Ulster and LPSNI (formally OSNI) both gave very informative and enjoyable presentations. &amp;nbsp;All in all a very useful afternoon, I hope the NI group of the AGI continue to organise these events which are so important for the development of the GIS industry in Northern Ireland.

			   <title>I love our new In-cell Touch Monitor</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/35/i-love-our-new-in-cell-touch-monitor</link>
			   <description>
	Having spied this revolutionary piece of technology at CeBIT my colleagues were blown away by the IDTC In-Cell Touch Monitor and soon after they got back we applied to become resellers for this Taiwanese product in Ireland.&amp;nbsp; Initially we were drawn to the In-cell Touch monitor by its sleek design and 21.5&amp;rdquo; HD screen which really gave it the wow factor, but we soon saw this wasn&amp;rsquo;t a case of style over substance. &amp;nbsp;It was equally impressive once you got into the knitty gritty of performing day to day tasks and we quickly realised the potential it had to change the way you work.

	For the non-techies like me out there, the In-cell Touch is a monitor which when connected to your computer displays the screen in the same way your current monitor does.&amp;nbsp; The big difference is that you control it with a stylus rather than a mouse.&amp;nbsp; You can rest your wrist on the screen and write or draw as if onto paper.&amp;nbsp;

	You can use it for all your day to day tasks such as reading e-mails or browsing the internet but the In-cell Touch really comes into its own when using graphical applications.&amp;nbsp; Autocad and Photoshop are both greatly enhanced by being able to draw directly onto the screen and due to the stylus it is much more accurate than traditional touch screen monitors.

	Another obvious application for these monitors is in a meeting or presentation situation.&amp;nbsp; When hooked up to a projector the monitor becomes on interactive whiteboard.&amp;nbsp; When discussing plans or the like, changes can be made directly onto the screen and can be erased and re-applied as often as required.

	One of my favourite things about this monitor is that it picks up handwriting, so if like me you&amp;rsquo;re not the fastest typist in the world you can write by hand and it is converted into text... in-fact I&amp;rsquo;m using it right now!

			   <title>Appointed Resellers for Innovative Touch Screen Monitors </title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/33/appointed-resellers-for-innovative-touch-screen-monitors-</link>
			   <description>
	Cookstown company Mallon Technology have been appointed resellers of In-cell Touch, an innovative new range of touch screen monitors by touch screen technology specialists, IDTI.

	The in-cell touch panel which incorporates a 21.5 inch HD screen has built in photo sensors on the array substrate of the LCD panel. &amp;nbsp;This makes extra add-on glass and other components unnecessary and increases screen brightness and image texture. &amp;nbsp;It also boasts unique palm rejection technology, which eliminates discomfort due to prolonged wrist elevation and allows users to write on screen as they would with a pen and paper. &amp;nbsp;

	&amp;nbsp;

	Whether in the office, conference room or at home, the In-cell touch is sleek, intuitive and will revolutionise the way you work.

		Engineering drawing can be done by hand with your preferred program giving you more control and saving you time.

		With a projector Incell Touch becomes as electronic whiteboard. &amp;nbsp;Notes and marks can be made directly onto documents making presentations and meeting more engaging and interactive.

		The screen can be used upright or horizontally in coordination with your reading habits, you can adjust the angle any way you want. &amp;nbsp;The full HD large screen enables you to easily read e-books or browse web pages.

		Notes can be marked directly and quickly onto documents, you can write directly with the stylus or input with a visual keyboard.

		Documents can be approved and signed directly onto the screen with handwriting and signatures displayed accurately.

		Unique palm rejection technology allows the screen to become your working desktop, without the awkwardness of writing with your wrist in the air. &amp;nbsp;Use for extended periods of time with ease.

	The In-cell Touch supports Mac, Linux, Windows 7, Vista and XP operating systems, with multi-touch functions supported on Microsoft Windows 7 home premium and above operating systems.

			   <title>Mallon Technology Become Docsvault Resellers</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/32/mallon-technology-become-docsvault-resellers</link>
			   <description>
	Mallon Technology are delighted to announce that they have become resellers of Docsvault, &amp;nbsp;a simple, affordable, and feature rich Document Management software with all the tools for a complete conversion to a paperless office.

	According to Forbes ASAP, the average business person spends 150 hours per year searching for information.&amp;nbsp; Now, assume that this person&amp;rsquo;s time is modestly estimated at &amp;pound;15 per hour.&amp;nbsp; This results in over &amp;pound;2000 of lost overhead due to scavenging for information.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

	Implementing Docsvault will not only give you immediately realized cost savings, but also is a preventative action to the inevitable chaos that unorganized files and documents will lead to.&amp;nbsp; It is not as if this unstructured data has no value; in fact, it more than likely forms the very backbone of your business.&amp;nbsp; But by organizing, managing, and securing this data in a way that suits your needs best, you can increase the value of this data by making it more accessible and more secure.&amp;nbsp;

	Mallon Technology Services Manager, David McQuillan explained &amp;ldquo;Docsvault complements our scanning services perfectly, allowing us to provide a complete and cost-effective document management solution.&amp;nbsp; Not only can we scan your documents but we can also install and provide training on Docsvault software&amp;rdquo;

	Key features of the software include:

		Multiple-User Collaboration:Everyone in the office can now access and modify documents from one location.

		Secure Access to Files:Control the file access of individual users and groups.

		Full-text Indexing and Advanced Searching:Find your files instantly by the text inside documents or by searching with over 10 different parameters.

		Cabinet-Drawer-File Structure:The familiar organization structure goes modern with a host of organizing and security features.

		Effortless Data Backups:With one-click burning and automated backups, data backup is now easier and more effective than ever before.

		Tools to Make Your Office a Paperless Powerhouse: Built-in scanning eliminates clutter in the office by quickly digitizing all paper files.

		Document Check Out and Check In:Eliminate errors caused by multiple users accessing and modifying the same files.

		Audit Trail:Track and log changes and access to your files.

		Version History and Control:Know which document is the latest version and eliminate unnecessary mistakes due to redundancy.

		Property and Profile Assignment:Users are not limited to the pre-defined file classifications set by Windows, providing endless ways to sort and classify files.

		MS Office Integration and Outlook Archiving and Organization:Docsvault seamlessly integrates into your most commonly used Microsoft applications and also allows you to archive and organize all of your old emails.

		Document Routing:Send documents and notes to other users within Docsvault without having to go through an email.&amp;nbsp;

			   <title>Chief Fire Officers Conference</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/30/chief-fire-officers-conference</link>
			   <description>
	We&amp;rsquo;ve just booked our stand for the 2011 Chief Fire Officers Conference in Adare Co. Limerick in May.&amp;nbsp; It&amp;rsquo;ll be my first time attending the conference but I&amp;rsquo;m told it&amp;rsquo;s not to be missed.

	The main talking point coming from our stand will be out newest product, Diamond Fire Engine.&amp;nbsp; We&amp;rsquo;ve already launched it into a number of fire authorities but this will be our opportunity to showcase it to a wide audience of Chief Fire Officers.&amp;nbsp; As the name suggests it&amp;rsquo;s a mobile application for accessing vital information at the scene of an emergency.

	We&amp;rsquo;ll also be launching some other applications we&amp;rsquo;ve been working on since last year&amp;rsquo;s show; Diamond EAC is an iPhone App for Emergency Action Codes, Diamond iReport is a handy piece of software for emergency incident reporting and Diamond Shift Manager manages all your shifts, leave, overtime and training, making roster planning easy.

	So come along and have a demo of our new products &amp;ndash; stand S52/53.

	See you there!

			   <title>Launch of new module - Diamond Fire Engine</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/29/launch-of-new-module-diamond-fire-engine</link>
			   <description>
	We have recently launched Diamond Fire Engine, an innovative new addition to our popular suite of public service software.We all know that at the scene of an emergency, life and death decisions need to be made fast, but vital information on hazards and risks can be inaccessible and patchy.&amp;nbsp; Diamond Fire Engine consists of software installed on a mobile ruggedised PC in the appliance cabin making up-to-date information available to fire fighters en-route to and at the scene of an emergency.

	Mallon Technology&amp;rsquo;s software team leader, Frank Hagenson, explains &amp;ldquo;Our product and services portfolio has always been driven by customer needs with our priorities firmly fixed on tailoring solutions that meet our customers&amp;rsquo; functional and budgetary requirements.&amp;nbsp; The idea for Diamond Fire Engine was conceived after listening to customers of our market-leading Diamond Fire product.&amp;nbsp; It became clear that the information was available to them, but back in the office, rather than at the front line where it would be most useful.&amp;nbsp; Diamond Fire Engine brings this information into the cab of the appliance and into the hands of those who really need it.&amp;rdquo;

	The system utilises the latest in mobile technology to track the appliance position and plot the best route using GPS and to retrieve information associated to the location such as risk cards, floor plans, vehicle recovery databases, chemical hazard databases, photographs and hydrant locations on the move.&amp;nbsp; This information can then be printed at the touch of a button on an in-cab printer or the PC can be removed from the cab and used on the ground. The built-in mapping and GIS capabilities provide easy to use decision support tools at the scene of an incident.

	The modern fire service is faced with the balancing act of delivering the highest standards of safety to the public and its own staff while working under constant budget pressure. Working with Mallon Technology, Fire and Rescues Services in Ireland have implemented a mobile GIS system to provide front line officers with the latest information on risks at the scene of an incident, and the tools to make informed decisions on the best course of action. By utilising databases and tools already in use by the Fire Service and other organisations, Mallon Technology has delivered this state of the art system at a relatively low cost.

			   <title>Diamond Fire in Donegal</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/28/diamond-fire-in-donegal</link>
			   <description>
	I was in Letterkenny yesterday training Glenn and the team on Diamond Fire. I must say I&amp;#39;m pleased to have the system up and running in the northern most county, especially because it&amp;#39;s only an hour from my house, so I was home in time to pick the kids up for a change.

	I recorded the training session on camtasia so I can produce some online training materials for them, but looking back through the footage, it&amp;#39;s going to take some serious work in the cutting room.

			   <title>Website launch</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/27/website-launch</link>
			   <description>
	&amp;nbsp;

	3 months in the making and we&amp;rsquo;ve finally launched our new website. &amp;nbsp;I wanted to give a mention to Reflex Studios who developed the site for us. &amp;nbsp; The whole process was particularly painless and we&amp;rsquo;re delighted with the finished product. &amp;nbsp;The site is really user friendly and easy to navigate, both for visitors and updates on our end.

	&amp;nbsp;

	Over the years we evolved as a company but the website didn&amp;rsquo;t evolve to reflect this. &amp;nbsp; With our new website we&amp;rsquo;ve updated the structure and included some products and services that were missing from our old site. &amp;nbsp;Two of the new sections are the reselling pages for Software and Hardware. &amp;nbsp;We are licensed to resell Colortrac and Panasonic document scanners, Casio rugged devices and various software programmes including MapInfo. &amp;nbsp; In many cases we are the only licensed reseller in Northern Ireland or even Ireland so it is important for us to get the message out there that we can advise, install and train on this software and hardware.

	&amp;nbsp;

	This new site gives us the flexibility to change the content as we evolve; keeping you abreast of all the latest products and services we have to offer&amp;hellip;so watch this space!</description>

			   <title>Update from CeBIT</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/26/update-from-cebit</link>
			   <description>
	Had a big day at CeBIT today. Cloud Computing seems to be the big thing this year, as well as the PC manufacturers showing off their new Intel i7 and USB3 models. There will be some goodies in a PC store near you this year.

	We talked to a lot of ruggedised PC manufacturers and distributors today. Rugged laptops and tablets are thin on the ground this year compared to last time I was here.

	Wierdest moment was seeing the Egyption trade pavilion. I had to feel sorry for them. You spend a zillion dollars on a great big stand at CeBIT to try and convince europeans to invest in your country, and then events back at home completely out of your control scare everyone away. The Egyptian delegates were a lonely looking bunch, but they put a brave face on it, with a video loop in the background celebrating the wind of change that has just swept through their country.

	As usual, the PCs get smaller and smaller each year. The ingenuity of the manufacturers just blows me away.

	One of the highlights was finding &amp;quot;Pleo&amp;quot; - a robotic dinosaur that responds to his environment, learns to know your voice and even &amp;quot;eats&amp;quot;. Very, very, cool. Pleo has an SDK and is open for you to write your own programs. Pleo has been around since 2007 apparently, but it&amp;#39;s the first time I&amp;#39;ve seen one, and now I can&amp;#39;t wait for Christmas.

			   <title>Movember</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/25/movember</link>
			   <description>
	Big congratulations go out to the &amp;ldquo;hairy&amp;rdquo; boys at Mallon Technology, who swapped their peachy-skinned cheeks for a more hirsute look for the Movember battle against male cancers campaign.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Amid raucous ridicule from colleagues and family, the boys took on the challenge and raised a whopping &amp;euro;1,543 for the worthy cause!

	The Mo, slang for moustache, and November come together each year for Movember.&amp;nbsp; Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men&amp;rsquo;s health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start November 1st&amp;nbsp;clean shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month.&amp;nbsp; The moustache becomes the ribbon for men&amp;rsquo;s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men.&amp;nbsp; Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.

	The Mallon Technology Movember team joined the 627,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas who have supported the cause since 2003, when the idea for Movember was sparked over a few beers in Melbourne, Australia. The Movember moustache has grown year on year since then, expanding to the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, South Africa, The Netherlands and Finland.

	In 2009, global participation of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas climbed to 255,755, with over one million donors raising &amp;pound;26 Million (GBP equivalent) for Movember&amp;rsquo;s global beneficiary partners.

	The money raised as a result of Movember is channelled by a men&amp;rsquo;s health partner into a number of world class and innovative education, support, research and awareness initiatives.

			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/24/cebit-here-we-come</link>
			   <description>
	I just got everything booked to go to CeBIT next week. Unfortunately I left the accommodation booking a little late, but I managed to secure a small garden shed no more than 50km from Hannover. A brisk walk never hurt anyone.

	But seriously, I am looking forward to this. Anthony and I have got 2 days of navigating the biggest computer industry trade show in Europe. If you&amp;rsquo;ve never been, the first time you go to CeBIT, the sheer scale of the place bowls you over. Even 2 days will be leaving it tight to get a really good look at anything.

	We&amp;rsquo;re going to check out the latest in mobile and rugged computing devices from the big boys and the hundreds of innovative small manufacturers you find at CeBIT.

	If I get time, I&amp;rsquo;ll bang a few posts up of highlights from the show while I&amp;rsquo;m there.

	Frank.

			   <title>Trade Mission to Romania &amp; Bulgaria</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/23/trade-mission-to-romania-bulgaria</link>
			   <description>
	Stephen Barker, Business Development Manager at Mallon Technology, has recently attended a trade mission to Romania and Bulgaria in November 2010.&amp;nbsp;

	Accompanied by Invest NI, eight companies packed their bags to head off on the trade mission.&amp;nbsp; Invest NI&amp;rsquo;s trade support consultancy helped set up face-to-face meetings with potential customers and partners, where translation services were provided as required.&amp;nbsp;

	Setting out with a few select products and services in mind that, as a company, we wanted to promote in Eastern Europe, we have made numerous valuable contacts and have generated useful leads for potential business through this very successful venture.&amp;nbsp;

	Having gained previous experience in the European market, particularly in Finland and Hungary, the trade mission gave us an insight into the potential markets and partnering opportunities available in Romania and Bulgaria and provided direct access to key procurement decision makers.&amp;nbsp;

	Invest NI trade director Dr Vicky Kelly said: &amp;nbsp;&amp;ldquo;Over the past two years, we&amp;rsquo;ve also seen many of these newcomers to exporting, as well as established exporters, secure worthwhile business that has encouraged them to look at other opportunities abroad. There are excellent opportunities in global markets for companies of all sizes and sectors provided they really want to grow their business and are prepared to invest the time.&amp;rdquo;

			   <title>TestComplete Tip #1</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/21/testcomplete-tip-1</link>
			   <description>
	I&amp;rsquo;ve been getting an error testing one of our applications written in Delphi 5 using SmartBear/AutomtedQA TestComplete. When working with an existing keyword test, I remapped a TDbGrid control and when I went to save it, I kept getting this error:

	&amp;quot;Could not convert variant of type (Null) into type (Integer)&amp;quot;

	Very frustrating, as I the script would not save because of the error, so I couldn&amp;rsquo;t even send an example of the problem to Tech Support. After hunting around for a while, I traced it down to the Object Map. One of the properties in there was set to Null, and TestComplete was apparently trying to convert the Null into an Integer to save the script.

	I deleted the object from the Object Map and was able to save and run the test. But because the mapping was now gone, the control could not be identified. When I remapped the control, the error came back. Doh!

	After messing around with for another hour or two, I worked out the solution:

	1)&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; When recording TestComplete tests for Delphi 5 applications, turn off object mapping:
	&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Go to Tools | Options | Name Mapping, and uncheck the 2 check boxes here

	2)&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Delete any object map that&amp;rsquo;s already been created (optional).

	3)&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Re-identify any controls in your test scripts.

	Step 3 took me a long time, as we&amp;rsquo;d already recorded a lot scripts. But it had another nice side-effect. I&amp;rsquo;d found that tests using mapped objects are unreliable. They&amp;rsquo;ll work fine time after time, and then, for no reason, just fail to identify objects at run time.

	When objects are not mapped, TestComplete evaluates them each run using the Delphi 5 control name hierarchy, and it finds the object pretty much every time. It means your test scripts are a bit wordier, but I&amp;rsquo;ve found it to be much more reliable.

	Happy testing,
	Frank.

They can withstand a 3.0 metre drop and are resistant to dust and rain, making them perfect for a host of applications in many different sectors - from demanding in-store environments, to the logistics and transportation industry, including work in high places in warehouses and outdoors.&amp;nbsp;

		&amp;nbsp;

		The DT-X8 models are equipped with elastomer protection around the outer case, including the edges surrounding the LCD and the battery cover that are vulnerable to shock if dropped. With this shock-resistant design, the terminal is tough enough to withstand a drop up to 3.0 metres. The screen of the DT-X8 models has a plastic touch panel over the LCD, improving the device&amp;rsquo;s durability. The DT-X8 is compliant with IP67 dust/splash-proof standards and can be operated in temperatures as low as -20&amp;ordm;C. Accordingly, the DT-X8 can operate with confidence in harsh conditions including dusty areas, all weather situations and low-temperature warehouses.&amp;nbsp;

		&amp;nbsp;

		Developed using ISO 13407 human-centred design processes, the DT-X8 models are easy to hold and operate. The shape and feel of the keys are improved to facilitate error-free data entry - even when wearing gloves, and key backlights are added to enable use in darker environments or at night. Scanning operation is easy with three scanner trigger keys, one in the centre and another on each side of the terminal.&amp;nbsp;

		&amp;nbsp;

		With a Blanview&amp;reg; LCD, the DT-X8 models feature a clear colour display that is highly visible both indoors and outdoors and boasts low power consumption. The product includes an array of features for application in all industry sectors including IEEE 802.11b/g standard wireless LAN compatible with WPA2 security standards and Bluetooth&amp;reg; Version 2.0 (Class 2). In terms of scanning, the DT-X8-10E can scan 1D symbologies, while the DT-X8-20E can scan both 1D and 2D symbologies, providing users with options that meet their specific requirements.&amp;nbsp;

		&amp;nbsp;

		Main Features of the DT-X8

		&amp;bull; Excellent durability: IP67 dust/splash-proof, withstands 3.0-metre drops and operates at subfreezing temperatures down to -20&amp;ordm;C

		&amp;bull; Designed in accordance with ISO 13407 human-centred design processes to realise easy operation

		&amp;bull; 5.9-cm (2.7-inch) Blanview&amp;reg; LCD realises both high visibility indoors and outdoors as well as low power consumption

		&amp;bull; Equipped with IEEE 802.11b/g standard wireless LAN compatible with WPA2 security standards

		&amp;bull; Equipped with Bluetooth&amp;reg; Version 2.0 (Class 2) to enable connection to mobile printers and mobile phones

		&amp;bull; Loaded with a file system for protecting the data from being lost when the battery runs out

		&amp;bull; Fitted with a slot for microSD and microSDHC cards to enable larger storage capacity.

			   <title>iPhone App Development</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/19/iphone-app-development</link>
			   <description>
	We&amp;rsquo;ve been working on our first iPhone app. I can&amp;rsquo;t say much about it yet, but it&amp;rsquo;s fair to say that as a Microsoft shop, we&amp;rsquo;re just dipping our toes in to see what the waters like. We&amp;rsquo;re not ready to make a big contribution to Steve Jobs retirement fund just yet.

	&amp;nbsp;

	Seems you can&amp;rsquo;t develop for the iPhone without shelling out on an Intel based Mac. Our resident instant Apple expert has been hacking away on a VM installation of OSX and dealing with recurrent crashes and hang ups. Enough is enough.

	&amp;nbsp;

	Today I zipped over to Portadown and picked up a second hand Mac Mini for about the same price I could have got a brand new PC of higher spec. So now we&amp;rsquo;re set to go with some real hardware.

	&amp;nbsp;

	I&amp;rsquo;ll give you an update when we&amp;rsquo;re closer to release date.

			   <title>Mallon Technology Present at IRLOGI</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/18/mallon-technology-present-at-irlogi</link>
			   <description>
	Paul Farrell, GIS Consultant with Mallon Technology, was selected to be listed amongst the presenters at the annual IRLOGI GIS Ireland 2010 event.&amp;nbsp; The presentation, entitled &amp;ldquo;Mobile Rugged GIS &amp;ndash; Agricultural Inspections&amp;rdquo;, was delivered at the conference recently held in Dublin.&amp;nbsp;

	Paul elaborated on the Company&amp;rsquo;s Field Based GIS system which uses a convergence of technologies including Internet Mapping, GPS and GPRS/WIFI, delivering a fully functional rugged GIS system.

	There is a greater need today than ever before to deliver business information to the field workforce, improving efficiency and enabling more effective corporate data management.

	Mallon Technology&amp;rsquo;s mobile products enable field staff to access corporate GIS data and use managed editing facilities. With the ability to remotely link to central databases, changes can be monitored and updated. This process ensures that both office and field-based staff are always working from high quality, up-to-date information. Traditionally these types of &amp;ldquo;cutting edge&amp;rdquo; mobile GIS solutions have been expensive to implement and maintain.&amp;nbsp; Mallon Technology has significantly reduced this cost without comprising quality or functionality.

	The Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Food have an EU regulatory requirement to undertake ground inspections for a selection of their customers.&amp;nbsp; In the recent past this has been primarily a paper based exercise with the obvious inefficiencies and excess cost associated with printed maps and forms.

	Mallon Technology has provided the Department with a field based system for inspectors to collect data in the field, using data from the Department&amp;rsquo;s corporate databases supplied through a spatial web portal.

	One of the primary benefits associated with the mobile inspection system is the ability to capture and/or update asset information using simple process-driven red-lining functionality, enabling field staff to identify and correct errors within asset data.

			   <title>Installing a New Generation of Scanners</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/17/installing-a-new-generation-of-scanners</link>
			   <description>
	Document scanners have come so far in recent years, with image quality and speed improving fantastically. &amp;nbsp;I was onsite with the Geological Survey of Ireland recently replacing their 10-year old model with a Colortrac SmartLF Gx+ 42&amp;nbsp;scanner and providing them with training on it. &amp;nbsp;The team there were amazed at how much quicker the new scanner was. &amp;nbsp;It&amp;rsquo;ll certainly make their job quicker and easier.

	There is a whole new generation of high-speed scanning technology out there that businesses are missing out on. &amp;nbsp;I think a barrier for many is the initial outlay but it could quickly pay for itself with increased productivity, image quality and functionality, and decreased downtime.

			   <title>The Only Constant is Change</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/16/the-only-constant-is-change</link>
			   <description>
	Got another lesson today in how business requirements continue to change long after you thought the software that fulfilled those requirements was finished.

	&amp;nbsp;

	I&amp;rsquo;ve been working on exporting some scanned images from &amp;nbsp;our digitising department to plug into Diamond Fire for one of our customers. We have an in-house indexing system that the scanners use, and a front end tool to generate an import file in any format we need for the customer to upload.

	&amp;nbsp;

	After having to continually re-write the tool in the early days whenever we got a new export specification, I&amp;rsquo;d re-architected it to use a different plug-in for each export format. I&amp;rsquo;d got to the point where I thought we&amp;rsquo;d built all the plug-ins we were ever going to need.

	&amp;nbsp;

	Yeah right. Export plug-in number 7 just completed. Roll on number 8.

			   <title>New Release of Diamond Fire</title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/15/new-release-of-diamond-fire</link>
			   <description>
	We&amp;rsquo;ve been working hard on the next release of Diamond Fire. It&amp;rsquo;s a major release which has required work on virtually every form in the application and I&amp;rsquo;m itching to get it out. Due to the scope of the changes, we decided it was time to get serious about automated testing. We have been doing this on a limited scale up until now in the form of unit testing, but the nature of the application has made it difficult to unit test more than just a few of the newer components.

	We&amp;rsquo;ve been developing an automated test harness for the application using Test Complete from SmartBear Software, and I have to say I&amp;rsquo;m mighty impressed with this tool. I used to be a consultant for Rational Software before IBM bought them and I did my fair share of automated testing using Rational Robot, so I&amp;rsquo;m no stranger to automated testing tools.

	&amp;nbsp;

	Test Complete is a lot cheaper than its competitors, &amp;nbsp;but I have to say, you get an awful lot of tool for your money. It&amp;rsquo;s not a case of TestComplete being cheap because it has less features, it&amp;rsquo;s more a case of most testing tools being far too over priced in my opinion. Diamond Fire is a fairly large application, but so far TestComplete has handled it with aplomb.

	&amp;nbsp;

	I&amp;rsquo;ll put out more information as I learn more about TestComplete, but for now I say well done SmartBear.

			   <title>Mallon Re-awarded DOA Contract </title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/2/mallon-re-awarded-doa-contract-</link>
			   <description>
	Mallon Technology has recently been re-awarded the LPIS Update project for the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Ireland.

	We currently have a team of 28 working on a split-site operation in Agriculture offices in Dublin and Portlaoise and we are entering our sixteenth year of working with the Department.

	Approximately 133,000 farmers submitted Single Payment Scheme applications to the Irish Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in 2009 in respect of approximately 1,000,000 land parcels. It is expected that a similar number will apply in 2010. Farmers may submit their application online or by post.

	Mallon Technology is responsible for the update of the Land Parcel Identification System with new parcels and boundary changes declared by farmers on maps, which they will submit with their 2010 Single Payment Scheme applications. This includes the permanent sub-division and merging of existing parcels, which generates new parcel numbers and the redlining of non-eligible features within parcels. The project also includes the digitisation of control inspections cases, an audit of land parcels against current orthophotography and digitisation of Forestry contracts. It is estimated that 50,000 SPS applicants will submit maps identifying new parcels and/or parcels with non-eligible features for scheme year 2010. Mallon Technology provides the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food with a project team that has individual LPIS and other GIS project related experience ranging from 2 years to 15 years. The team is multi-skilled and fully trained in all aspects of the project and the majority hold a third level qualification in GIS or related field. The team have extensive experience in spatial systems, cadastral mapping and orthophotography and have demonstrated a strong ability to follow procedures and processes to high standard of quality.

			   <title>IRLOGI Presentation </title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/4/irlogi-presentation-</link>
			   <description>
	Mallon Technology&amp;rsquo;s&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Software Development Team Leader,&amp;nbsp;Frank Hagenson was selected as one of the presenters at the recent IRLOGI GIS Ireland conference &amp;ndash; Ireland&amp;rsquo;s premier GIS event.&amp;nbsp;

	The presentation, entitled &amp;ldquo;Saving lives and money with mobile GIS at Kildare Fire Service&amp;rdquo;, revealed how a low cost solution can allow a Fire Service to make informed, on-the-spot decisions in an emergency situation.

	Title: &amp;ldquo;Saving lives and money with mobile GIS at Kildare Fire Service&amp;rdquo;

	Abstract:
	The modern fire service is faced with the balancing act of delivering the highest standards of safety to the public and its own staff while working under constant budget pressure. Working with Mallon Technology, Kildare Fire Service has implemented a mobile GIS system to provide front line officers with the latest information on risks and hazards at the scene of an incident, and the tools to make informed decisions on the best course of action. By utilising databases and tools already in use by the Fire Service and other organisations, we have delivered a state of the art system at a relatively low cost. This presentation describes how Mallon Technology and Kildare Fire Service developed the system, explains the key drivers behind it, and demonstrates how mobile GIS can be used to save lives without breaking the bank.

			   <title>Department of Social &amp; Family Affairs </title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/7/department-of-social-family-affairs-</link>
			   <description>
	Mallon Technology has been awarded and undertaken the data capture of up to 1,000,000 tax contribution records for the Department of Social and Family Affairs, Ireland.

	Based in one of our Dublin offices, the main objectives of the project are to capture and store in electronic format pre-1979 contribution data on the Central Records System (CRS) and to make the data available to scheme systems/sections to support the determination of eligibility for the various contributory schemes administered by the Department. It will also enable provision of online access to data by customers.

	We have developed bespoke data capture software to allow for the unique tax contribution records to be captured to a quality level of above 99.95%. Due to the sensitive and confidential nature of the data, quality levels and data security are predominant requirements of the project.

	The project will facilitate the final compilation of a single consolidated, electronic record of a customer&amp;rsquo;s contributions on the CRS - both under the PRSI system which was introduced in 1979 and insurance contributions made prior to 1979. It will also increase productivity within the Department by allowing for the automation of responses to customer requests, both online and paper, for their contribution records.

			   <title>Mallon on the Map </title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/6/mallon-on-the-map-</link>
			   <description>
	Mallon Technology has announced the launch of MallonMap &amp;ndash; our retail outlet now supplying OSNI (Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland) mapping and data.

	Having undertaken the OSNI licensed partnership programme, MallonMap is now open to both trade and the public as an OSNI distributor.
	&amp;nbsp;
	Until now, availability of OSNI mapping was largely limited to OSNI headquarters in Belfast. The opening of MallonMap, as the sole supplier in Mid-Ulster, offers increased access for both business and general public alike.

	MallonMap has launched the service using the same pricing structure as OSNI, affording them the advantages associated with being a local supplier whilst providing the product at no extra cost.

	Philip Mallon, CEO of Mallon Technology, said, &amp;ldquo;Partnering with OSNI and becoming a distributor of OSNI mapping is a logical move forward for the ongoing expansion of Mallon Technology, as mapping is at the core of our day-to-day business. It makes sense for us to provide the maps alongside the specialised services we offer that can make the maps useful and applicable to the customer.&amp;rdquo;

	Of particular interest to local solicitors, architects and the general public, is that the OSNI product offering includes ACEmaps - a necessary requirement for first time land registration, planning permission and building control applications. ACEmaps can be supplied either as hardcopy or in digital format.

	Although, MallonMap foresees that the main customer demand will be for ACEmaps, also on offer is a range of OSNI products including historical mapping dating from 1830&amp;rsquo;s to 1960&amp;rsquo;s, raster and vector mapping and ortho-photography.

	MallonMap services include editing and customisation of all types of mapping supplied, ranging from adding labelling or imagery to demarcating sites or overlaying townland boundaries onto aerial photography.

			   <title>Data Capture Project for Department of the Environment </title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/9/data-capture-project-for-department-of-the-environment-</link>
			   <description>
	Mallon Technology has been awarded the contract to capture all personnel and subject files for the Department of the Environment in Ireland.&amp;nbsp;

	&amp;nbsp;

	The Department of the Environment, like many other central government organisations has decided to implement an enterprise wide document management system.

	One of the key challenges in doing this is capturing critical data and making it usable for all stakeholders within the organisation.&amp;nbsp; Mallon Technology is in a prime position to offer the skills and experience to capture the data for any EDRM (Electronic Document and Records Management) system, to ensure the investment in software is worthwhile whilst giving users business critical information at their fingertips.

			   <title>Mallon Undertake EPA Digitising Project </title>
			   <link>http://http://www.anim8stopmotion.com/mallontechnology/news/item/8/mallon-undertake-epa-digitising-project-</link>
			   <description>
	Mallon Technology are undertaking the digitising of river charts for the Environmental Protection Agency, Dublin.&amp;nbsp; The project involves the capture of 85,000 charts and completion will be phased over a three year period.&amp;nbsp;

	&amp;nbsp;

	Data loggers are used to monitor trends in water levels in rivers throughout Ireland.&amp;nbsp; The data retrieved varies on a weekly basis and these results are used for the creation of future plans for flood defences for Irish rivers.&amp;nbsp; Currently the data is analysed using paper based charts.&amp;nbsp; Mallon Technology are now converting the charts to an electronic repository, which can then be analysed at the touch of a button through a hydrometric application known as Kisters.&amp;nbsp; The project will result in significant savings for the EPA in respect of both time and resources.

	Within their range of business units, Mallon Technology currently produce the Diamond Software Suite, a range widely used by local councils, as well as providing GIS data capture and conversion services throughout Ireland and Europe.&amp;nbsp; Managing Director, Philip Mallon explained&amp;nbsp; &amp;ldquo;The move into scanning was a natural progression for the company.&amp;nbsp; We have already been successful in securing data management contracts with several ROI County Councils, but hope to build our client-base in this area to include Northern Ireland businesses.&amp;nbsp; Digital storage is an inevitable step for anyone with large format documents, large volumes of paperwork or even important historical records. Documents are stored on DVD allowing more security, more office space, easy access and preserved quality.&amp;quot;

	The newly appointed Scanning Manager, David McQuillan commented&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &amp;ldquo;This specialised equipment will provide Mid-Ulster businesses with a quick and, cost-effective means of backing up their important paper documents.&amp;quot;
