The Survey Ireland conference returned to DIT this year after a brief hiatus and was attended by Mallon Technology staff from the Dublin and Portlaoise offices.
Speakers at the conference came from a number of academic and industrial backgrounds including: DIT, OSI, Tullow Oil, DPS Engineering, and Coastway. The conference was kicked off with an engaging talk about the importance of Geomatics in the modern world, while the proceeding speakers focussed on a broad range of topics including GPS infrastructure, laser scanning, project management, and risk analysis. Of particular interest was the talk by Conor Cahalan of NUI Maynooth who demonstrated the capabilities’ of mobile laser scanning which could be used in carrying out inspections, potentially allowing for more accurate mapping of field boundaries on the part of Mallon Technology.
Alongside the talks, DIT had also organised an exhibition, allowing the organisations present to market and demonstrate a wide variety of the very latest in surveying equipment technology, including: theodolites; GPS equipment; and of particular interest, UAV’s for capturing aerial imagery, as modelled here by Mallon Technology’s very own Brian McNally. All in all it was a very informative and worthwhile day and hopefully the conference will continue to be scheduled on annual basis.
