    Last week Justin Kidd and Niamh O'Keeffe were lucky enough to get to the Annual GeoDirectory User's Conference.  This is Niamh's account of the day:   I attended the Annual GeoDirectory user’s conference in The Gresham Hotel in Dublin on Thursday March 29th along with Justin Kidd. I had been expecting a very technical set of talks regarding the GeoDirectory products but while I gained some insight into forthcoming releases there was a variety of speakers on a range of topics.     AGINI Soapbox event

    Last Thursday (22nd March) we attended AGINI’s latest event ‘Soapbox’ in South Eastern Regional College (SERC), Lisburn.  Our expectations were high after the success of their last event, GeoBeers back in February- and it didn’t disappoint! The composition of the event was informal five-minute open presentations by people involved or interested in GIS to share their knowledge.  Some topics of interest were Jennifer McKinley of QUB talking about GIS research and teaching within the School of Geography; Anne Campbell of SERC on the operational and strategic use of GIS at SERC; and Michael Aiken talking about how GI is playing a large role in how DARD manage payments.   • Mallon Technology Attends Survey Ireland Conference

    The Survey Ireland conference returned to DIT this year after a brief hiatus and was attended by Mallon Technology staff from the Dublin and Portlaoise offices. Speakers at the conference came from a number of academic and industrial backgrounds including: DIT, OSI, Tullow Oil, DPS Engineering, and Coastway. The conference was kicked off with an engaging talk about the importance of Geomatics in the modern world, while the proceeding speakers focussed on a broad range of topics including GPS infrastructure, laser scanning, project management, and risk analysis. Of particular interest was the talk by Conor Cahalan of NUI Maynooth who demonstrated the capabilities’ of mobile laser scanning which could be used in carrying out inspections, potentially allowing for more accurate ma…
