    Remote Sensing and Archaelogy

    ArcLand’s two day conference K2U2 (from Known Knowns to Unknown Unknowns – remotely detecting the past) was held in Dublin City Council buildings on 9th& 10thMay 2013. It was attended by Niamh, Aisling, Maria and Conor.   Over twenty speakers primarily from Ireland, UK and Europe gave a range of papers in regard to remote sensing (Aerial Photography, Satellite Imagery, LiDAR, Geophysical survey i.e. all methods of non-invasive archaeological prospection) at various project locations throughout Europe.   Recurring in several of the papers was the fact that remote sensing data supplemented the knowledge of the number of known archaeological sites as recorded in National inventories of archaeology – in the case of Ireland on the SMR (Sites an…

    Survey Ireland Conference 2013

    On Thursday March 21 Kris Frydryk and Dariusz Studencki attended the Survey Ireland 2013 Conference.  It was hosted for the second year in the row by the Dublin Institute of Technology.  Here is Kris's account of the day: "This year, “Ireland’s premier event for Geomatics practitioners” attracted many renowned speakers with academic and industrial backgrounds, as well as an ever-growing number of attendees with an interest in geospatial technology.     CFOA Conference 2013

    We were extremely pleased to be able to attend this year’s Chief Fire Officer’s Association Conference.  This year the conference took place in the Silversprings Moran Hotel in Cork City. As with every year, there were lots of interesting speakers from all over the world, speaking about a variety of topics, from “Developments in Geodata-Opportunities for the Fire Service” by Tore Eriksson-President of CTIF in Germany; to “Super Storm Sandy: FDNY Preparedness, Preparation, Response and Recovery” by Robert Maynes, Queens Borough Commander of FDNY. This was an exciting year for us at the Chief Fire Officer’s Conference, as we took the opportunity to launch the newest addition to the Diamond Suite, Diamond Hydrant Inspection.  On t…
