Portlaoise Team Take on Bubble Football Challenge

With fundraising activities in full swing for the company’s 20/20 Charity Challenge, the Portlaoise team decided to get in on the action by organising a game of Bubble Football, in aid of MapAction.

Bubble Football is played just as traditional football but with the addition of each player wearing a giant inflatable bubble or zorb over the top half of their bodies. The inclusion of the bubble is an intriguing and exciting twist on traditional football, enabling players to tackle each other in a manner that would result in straight red cards in the Premier League! The results however are often hilarious and the spectacle provides great entertainment not only for those taking part but for any spectators watching in the crowd.

Niall Kennedy took part in the challenge on the day and talks us through the experience:

“We arrived down to Portlaoise Leisure Centre on the day to see inflated zorbs waiting for us as well as some confused locals, unaware of what was about to take place. The first game was a simple 5–a–side match in which we all started a bit sheepishly, but once we got the first hit out of our system the battle lines were well and truly drawn. We played 3 games in total, all of which involved big hits and spectacular falls.”<

Luckily for the team it was a cool and cloudy day as it can get very warm inside the zorbs and thankfully there were only minor injuries and bruises to show for the team’s efforts. Everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed their experience and would highly recommend giving it a go. To see the team in action check out the gallery below.

On the day the team all donated money to take part and collected further donations from within the team, managing to raise a fantastic €120 for MapAction. Well done to everyone who took part, all those hits and bruises must have been worth it with the final amount raised.
