This project involved the development, installation and support of a socio-economic GIS system. Due to the complexity of the data, to be gathered, it was important that we created a system that displayed information in a way to ease the understanding of the underlying trends and movements. Data was brought back to District Electoral Division level to allow for the production of common reports.
We also provided MapInfo Courses to six members of their staff, from various departments. This course was customised for each individual user to take into account the various departments that they worked in, and the differing requirements that they had from MapInfo.
Benefits
The system assisted the County Development Board in preparing data and graphic reports, allowing their future strategy to be defined. These reports covered a number of arenas including economic, social and cultural improvements. Previously, it had been a manual process, but with the implementation of this system, data could be analysed faster and be more easily manipulated.
With the longer-term goal to provide trend-based information, the system had to be capable of holding and maintaining historical information, which could then be used to analyse county movements.
