Mallon Technology has recently begun the capture of 400,000 pages of data for the Department of Defence dating from 1916-1922. The project entails the placement of four staff on-site in the Cathal Brugha Barracks capturing each individual page in 24 bit colour uncompressed TIF Preservation master, the creation of a derivative JPEG and th creation of PDF file for utilisation on the web.
Benefits
The project is the most significant heritage capture project being processed in the state at the moment and will be a centrepiece of the 1916 centenary commemoration. Upon completion it is intended that historically significant files will be available to the general public online.
